When I designed Deciduous, I was living in Los Angeles where appropriate times to wear thick cabled knits were measured in hours instead of days, weeks or months. I wanted to play with the way stitch pattern could shape a garment. Ribbing pulled the garment in to the waist, and gradually petered out into a reverse stockinette background that not only widened the garment to fit the bust, but also curled towards the body to finish the top edge.

The front and back of the garment are shaped identically. It is only the change in stitch pattern that creates the drape in front. The front charts organically flows from ribbing to reverse stockinette while the back chart maintains a near balance of knit to purl stitches in each row to keep the gauge consistent.

Sizes

Pattern contains 12 sizes

Finished Bust Circumference (double the back bust)
32 ½ (34, 36 ½, 38, 40 ½, 41 ½, 44, 45 ½, 48, 52, 55 ½, 59 ½)"
82.5 (86.5, 92.5, 96.5, 103, 105.5, 112, 115.5, 122, 132, 141, 151) cm

Sample size: 34" / 86.5 cm shown on a 36" bust.
Suggested ease: +/- 2" / 2.5 cm.
Note: The front of the garment has more ease built in than the back because the reverse stockinette stitch gauge pulls in less than the ribbing gauge. If you fall between bust sizes, choose the smaller size unless you prefer a very loose fit.

Supplies

5 (5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8) skeins of Cascade 220 (100% wool) – 220 yd / 201 m per 3 ½ oz / 100 g in color #9560

* Or size to obtain gauge

Gauge

20 sts x 26 rows over 4" / 10cm in Reverse Stockinette
25 sts x 26 rows over 4" / 10cm in k2, p2 ribbing

To check gauge, wash swatch and lay flat to dry, gently smoothing out swatch without stretching. Ribbing gauge should be spread out enough that both the knit and purl welts are visible but not so much so that the swatch is flat.
