Totally Off Topic...For LA area folks
My company is trying to hire for some openings here and they've started a referral incentive so, I'm going to use my humble blog to both help my colleagues and maybe score a little incentive in the process.

Artist 1
Incumbent is responsible for producing creative ad visuals or spec ads for reps to use as selling tools. This Artist position will support live ad corrections for deadline ads. Will partner up with and support Advertising Sales Departments. Will manage the flow of daily deadline ads.Requirements:
-good communication and presentation skills.
- graphic design skills
- must have MAC, Photoshop and Illustrator
-Must be able to multitask and work in a deadline driven environment.
Production Typist
ROLE: This individual will primarily be responsible for typing copy/text for all automobile, real estate, and retail/ recruitment ads for production. He/she will assure wording in all ads make sense, spelling is correct, grammar is accurate, and will assist with minor ad building and revises in downtime.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Typing advertising copy/ text for all auto, real estate and
retail/ recruitment ads
· Verify spelling and grammar is correct
· Verify ad text meets the customer intended requirements
· Must be able to type at least 70 wpm
· Assist with ad building on pick-ups and minor changes
(approximately 15 % of work)
· Assist with ad proofing when needed (approximately 5%
of work)
· Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
· Typing skills of 70 wpm
· Good English, spelling and grammatical skills
· Knowledge of word processing software
· Knowledge of MAC Computer operation helpful
· Familiarity with Multi-Ad Creator a plus
· Must be able to work while sitting or walking up to 8 hours
per day
· Typing on a computer up to 8 hours per day
· Able to work in Multi-Ad Creator a plus.
· Familiar with QuarkXpress a plus.
Proofreader
This individual will primarily be responsible for proofreading all categories of LA Times advertising. Checking all ads for symmetry, balance, consistency, artwork proportions, identifying errors and corrections needed for accurate production. This individual must be able to processes corrections in an accurate and timely manner.
Hours for this position are during the night shift.Responsibilities:
·Proofread all ads word for word.
·Verify ad symmetry, balance, consistency, spelling, grammar, and artwork proportions.
·Make minor corrections to ads as needed.
·Return ad to Ad Designer for major corrections.
·Print out corrected version of ad and two color copies if ad is in color.
·Review corrections with Ad Designer as needed.
·Verify that all notes on proofs have been reviewed and initialed by a supervisor.
·Place completed ads at proof-out area.
·On high volume night’s proofers may be required to work level 1 (small, minor) ads from ad rack.
·Will be cross-trained to assist where needed.
Technical skills:
·Computer literate on MAC computer
·Proficient in Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator
·Knowledge of Multi-Ad Creator and QuarkXpress software a plus
Customer Service Rep
Incumbents will provides direct customer support to advertisers and sales reps alike, handling multiple tasks from point of sale to pagination. This position requires multi-tasking, managing operational functions including order entry, ad tracking, coordination of ad layouts and ad revisions, proofing and processing digital ads. Additional services supported by CSR’s are handling billing issues, managing proof cycle with customers, generating qualified sales leads, training new hires for either sales or Ad Ops, troubleshooting and problem-solving. Other duties may be assigned.-Candidates must be PC literate.
-Knowledge of Admarc, Advision and Dataflow a plus.
-Must be able to work in deadline driven environment.
-Must be able to multitask.
-Strong customer service skills required.
Ad Operations Supervisor
The Advertising Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading a team to success via a proactive and effectively run operation, focused on staff development. In addition to daily operations and staff management, the Supervisor develops process improvements, cost reductions and manages expenses to meet budget expectations. Responsibilities include: proactive interaction with sales and advertising customers; managing services and costs of external vendors; project/team management; analytical problem solving, personnel-related duties (e.g. interviews, performance reviews, corrective action, hiring, and terminations); and overall management by objective using measured performance standards.PREFERRED/QUALIFICATIONS: The supervisor should: have leadership/management skills or ability, have knowledge of Ad Production and/or Order Entry and material handling procedures, be analytical, project and process oriented, be well organized with thorough attention to detail, proficient in MS Office, have good verbal and written communication skills, be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment, with ability to consistently deliver on all deadlines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Operations - manage day to day operations to function efficiently and smoothly
· Leadership – Ability to lead meetings, project teams, develop business plans, etc. to successful, timely conclusions
· Accountability – Manage by objective; ability to set standards and measure performance of an activity or individual
· Staff – Ability to coach and develop staff to higher level of development and performance; strong team-building skills preferred. Conduct performance reviews as required. Also able to set and revise work shift schedules.
· Personnel – Conduct interview sessions and ability to participate in hiring, disciplinary action and terminations as needed and per company policy.
· Customers – Professional and proactive contact with internal and external advertising customers
· Vendors – Responsibility for managing services and costs of external vendors
· Problem Solving – Able to identify, and solve, problems on the level of a single ad or bigger picture impacting the department or organization as a whole
· Ad adjustments – Identify and resolve root causes resulting in expense reduction; also use in performance management
· Reporting, presentations, etc.

I have 25 years experience in numbers 1,3 and 5. But live toooo many miles away. But hate the job I have now and would rather be doing numbers 1,3, and 5.
