Two wheelin'

Well, what did we do this weekend?
Let's see, we went to see Harry Potter. They left a lot of important stuff out. It was good, though and if you've read the book, you should be able to follow along fine. I thought that Umbridge bore a striking resemblance to the first lady. I'll leave it at that.

Oh and I went Salsa dancing. That was fun.

What was that other thing?
...

Oh yea, got in a car accident.
That was a real bummer.

We were t-boned, ended up riding on two wheels for a bit, but Leo managed to steer the car back onto all fours. It's amazing how much one's brain processes during all of this. I remember thinking "we're going to roll over" and lamenting that our leftover sushi might have spilled.

Everyone from both vehicles is fine, short of a few bruises and aches. In hindsight, it could have been so much worse and luckily, we didn't have the pups with us.

Here you can see the wear on the tire from those few (mili?)seconds we were on only two wheels

And here is a view of the damage to our car.

All things considered, the damage is not as bad as it could have been. None of the windows broke, the engine seems untouched. The suspension is all wonky, but that's to be expected. Otherwise, though, I would say that the Element proved to be a darn fine car when we needed it most.

While the door buckled pretty badly, at least it closes.

We have a tarp on the car to keep out any rain, but it's better than having to hold the door shut with bungees.

So, yah, most of our week has entailed a lot of filling out of paperwork, but we're thankful to be in good health and able to handle the situation.

The girls are just glad we made it home in time to feed them dinner.

small_stitchball.jpg In unrelated news, for those of you from the Portland area, Wendee has asked me to get the word out about the upcoming Seattle Stitch n Pitch. $45 gets you transportation, a ticket, and a bag of Lantern Moon goodies. Oooh lala. If you are interested, contact Diana at dianaATlanternmoonDOTcom, ASAP. Only 20 tickets left.

Argh! Glad you're ok!! MY...wow...
Yikes!

beth:

Oh my! I'm glad to hear no one was seriously injured and that you were sans pups.

Eek! Glad you're OK.

I also own a brand new Element (in blue) and got hit by a guy who wasn't paying attention to the EXTREMELY icy road while driving down a hill that has a red light at the bottom, with a plow on the front of his truck. Needless to say, it was the first car I ever bought new and I had owned it for under 2 months when it happened. I was fine, just pissed. The Element is "back to new" or so they say... I still feel like she's not the same. Glad to hear your ok, and the girls got their dinner on time ;)

Kate:

Glad to hear you guys are ok - sorry to hear about the car!

Glad everyone is okay...sorry about the car! :)

oh wow! I'm so glad you're ok -- and your element's in one piece. (I'll go give ours a hug for its sister saving you. :D)

Beth:

Yikes, scary! Glad everyone is ok!

What a BUMMER! I'm glad you guys were ok. Hey, thanks for the supportive emails and comments...What a mess!

holy crap! I'm glad to hear that you are ok (and that the left over sushi is fine too) :)

I'm so glad that everyone's ok. The car did it's job protecting you. and that's a good thing.

Wow! Glad you're ok.

I just got in my first car accident on Friday (the 13th). Northbound on 405 in Long Beach. I never want to be on that freeway ever again.

Get lots of rest and make sure to see a doctor even if you don't think you need one! :)

Phew. I'm glad you and the sushi are ok!

Thank goodness the sushi made it! :)

Phew- glad you guys were alright. Our Element is my very first car bought brand ne, and wouldn't you know it, a knicklehead in a Beamer hit it the first month we had it. Thankfully, they seem built well for safety.

Amy:

Oof, I'm really glad you're all okay. Car accidents are terrifying.

I felt like the movie could have used another half-hour, but that it was one of the best movies that could have been made out of that book, in the end. The end confrontation in the Ministry blew me away. (And you're right, she totally *does* bear a resemblance to the First Lady! Yikes!)

I'm glad that no one was injured. Accidents are frustrating!

When we were hit last fall (in the 70 day old car) all I could think about is why are they hitting that side and not the side that I already scratched!

CJ:

Oh my. Glad you're okay!

Glad you guys are ok!! Such a bummer about the damage to the wheels. That is so funny that you thought about the sushi... our minds sure are strange in those situations!

Glad you're ok ! Love to girls too - they are gorgeous ! Mum watched HP and she loved it. I think she's still hung up on Professor Snape and his mysterious manner. She thought Umbridge looked familiar, but couldn't put a finger to it until you brought up the resemblance...

AmyP:

I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad you're OK.
Smoosh those dog's faces and make your self feel better!

kate:

My god! How scary. I'm glad you guys are alright. xoxoxo

Oh geez, how scary! I'm glad you guys are okay! We went to see HP, too. Didn't think about it at the time, but now that you mention the resemblance... ;)

Whew - I'm glad you both made it out relatively unscathed! Guess that makes for an exciting day, huh?! Thanks for the post about Stitch n Pitch. I'm glad I'm already in Seattle, but if I wasn't I'd be on that bus in a flash - I can't resist Lantern Moon goodies.

Holy cow, you scared the crap out of me! I am SO GLAD you're ok! And I hope you don't have any residual aches and pains later. And that all the insurance stuff goes smoothly.

June:

Shoot! As a veteran of a couple accidents (I was passenger, I swear), watch out for aches and pains that come a day or two after an accident. (I once munged my foot/ankle by bracing for impact, and the hand that had instinctively grabbed the door handle also had some minor injuries.)

I am glad that everyone was all right.

kat:

bummer! I'm so glad you two are okay. Nothing fun about car accidents.

Dawn:

Wow-wee!! that is some week. Nice that they don't repeat like Groundhog Day!. So happy everyone was okay and I'm assuming that the sushi made it out just fine as well. I agree with you about the first lady (snicker).

Yikes, glad you kids are okay and the girls weren't in the car! T-boning's no fun, despite the name...

Marnie, no! I had hoped the title referred to a spinning meet up. Thinking of you, glad to know everyone is safe and sending warm, happy thoughts!

jody:

oh no that's terrible. i'm so glad to hear everyone is ok, and that the dogs weren't with you.

I'm so glad your okay, and wow on 2 wheels? geez! I hope the frame of the car didn't have any damage, sometimes cars can still be considered "totaled" if the frame is bent.

It looks pretty good considering, but mostly I'm glad you guys are okay and the dogs wern't in the car!!!

Eep! Glad you're okay! It could certainly have been worse, and I'm so glad it wasn't worse, but so sorry it happened at all. And yes, so very glad the dogs weren't in the car. Chappy wears a seatbelt in mine so that I know he won't go flying if we're ever in an accident (knock wood), but I'd really rather avoid that altogether. Especially since he already dislikes that car so much to begin with...

The OOTP movie? Yes, of course, they inevitably left out bunches of stuff, but I think it's the strongest one of the movies so far--a tighter narrative than the others, and the kids are growing into their roles nicely. It wasn't my favorite book of the series, but I enjoyed the movie quite a bit--and was impressed that Filch managed to stay on that ladder!
